really liked it Shelves canadian, contemporary, free verse, modern, poetry, reality dramatic, small press I never thought so much can be written about food, and in such a diverse way I honestly expected a litany of beautiful images, names of dishes, and things of the sort when I first picked up the collection, worried the poems would lack substance Wright proved me completely wrong The emotional and cultural weight was present in each individual piece, whether touching on traditions in Greenland, presenting the heavy and emotional subject of Hitler s taste testers, or presenting the ridiculousnes I never thought so much can be written about food, and in such a diverse way I honestly expected a litany of beautiful images, names of dishes, and things of the sort when I first picked Greenland, presenting the heavy and emotional subject of Hitler s taste testers, or presenting the ridiculousness in the familiar North American eating habits and general ideas around food These poems readers who like to stimulate all five of their senses, or who enjoy culinary fiction and other related genres a guilty pleasure of mine I ve never read prose poetry quite like this what a relief it is when a new writer isn t pretentious or preachy about the meaning of love and heartache, and instead wants to delve into the human Id so to speak I m not going to say it was amazing, but it was
