human butterfly hybrids It s hard to classify this book It has a bit of a fantasy feel with some dystopian elements that are not all that fleshed out, but it also is a romance with a definite Christian aspect to it as well The age of the characters make it fit into the new adult age group, but it s completely clean and reads like a young adult novel The overall theme of the book is, be wise about who you choose to marry and spend your life with What I liked about this book the most was that it somehow kept me glued to it despite the fact that I thought the whole human butterfly hybrid thing was pretty silly, and the main character drove me crazy at times with her wishy washy indecisiveness She went back and forth between three guys so many times Now about the guys I think I met and dated a guy exactly like each of them in college There is the one that you like and is really nice, but are not attracted enough to The one who is very attentive and takes care of you and is fun to be around The one who is attractive but rough around the edges, has a good heart, but maybe isn t all that smart The one that you know is bad for you, but the attraction is strong I m not going to spoil who is who here, or which one Elissa ends up with, but I was happy with who she chose.Things that I thought could have been improved upon were The story was a little long Too much going around and around in circles with the guys and her feelings about them The days felt super long Two days felt like two weeks to me Too insta love like for me A couple of days isn t enough time to get to know a person The dystopian aspect of the book was underdeveloped.Things I liked were The funny last names based on types of butterflies Mr Sootywing and Mr Hairstreak, I actually looked up these butterflies to see what they looked like The fact that the book kept me glued to it Mit and Holis The choice she makes about who she will marry The overall theme of the book. Thanks to the author for loved this book, it melted my heart into a little puddle of happiness and left me content in my surrounding feels I could relate to so much that happened it was almost unreal This book was like a safety net for me, in the book world I knew from page one, I was going to enjoy it I don t typically fall into the magic of fantasy contemporary genre, because I personally have never been a huge fan of fantasy This book was highly well written and I loved every second I felt a connection with the characters, I laughed quite a bit It was a little emotional, but the melancholy feels weren t hitting completely home for me I don t usually appreciate the whole daddy issues thing in books, but this was completely understandable and was settled exceptionally well This was a constant page turner for me and I was engrossed in the story 100% I only gave this book 4.5 because the just ending wasn t enough for me I wanted I m not a huge fan of endings that leave me with tons of unanswered questions Review from my 17 year old daughter Elissa Blue by T.K Perry was a very diverse an unique story T.K Perry built and extensive and engaging world, inhabited by creatures different from any other I ve ever read Butterfly human hybrids I believe that she did an excellent job describing her world and these butterfly hybrids, though there were some strange details that I found borderline disturbing For instance I thought the pheromone was weird. The story has elements of fantasy and dystopian, but mostly it s is a romance Elissa is simply trying to find the right guy She doesn t want to make her decision too quickly and thus end up unhappy for the rest of her life, but she also doesn t have much time to choose because hanging over her is the constant threat of her season ending Perry keeps you guessing until the end who Elissa will end up with, throwing in new twists every time you think you have it figured out.I think my favorite characters were Elissa s extended family I liked Psyche and her brothers, and even though I started off thinking their dad was a total jerk I ended up liking him too Elissa herself was somewhat selfish and shallow, and some of the things she did just had me shaking my head and thinking, Girl but she won me over by the end.Elissa s long cast of potential love interests were also interesting characters Well, most of them were One of her love interests I utterly couldn t stand He was a troglodyte, and every time she gushed how perfect he was I would roll my eyes.On a whole this was a clean, YA NA romance with a very unique twist I m interested in what the next books in this series will be.I received a copy of this novel for free I was not required to post a positive review and all views and opinions are my owntps pausefortales 20 flag 6 likesLike great success Lots of well written characters, exciting conflicts, romance and fun Oh and giggling Lots of girly giggling DBecause I m not so much a fantasy fairy book reader in general and because the world in the book was so creative and different than what I m used to reading, I had to suspend disbelief a bit than usual, and the timeline of the story was hard for me to wrap my head around I don t think that s as much a criticism of the book as an admission of my strained ability to just go with the flow of a world I m unfamiliar with Other than the whirlwind timeline of the book, I thoroughly enjoyed it flag 4 likesLike see review Aug 03, 2017 Niki rated it it was amazing Shelves fantasy, fiction, young adult A friend of mine wrote this book so have been excited to read it I must sort through her hormones to discover her heart s desire. In truth, she seemed flighty pun intended to me when it came to guys not able to settle on one person Instead, she s continually convinced the one she is with is her perfect mate. That aspect of her personality is juxtaposed against her loyalty to the family and friends she meets and makes along the way She visits them, encourages them, and sympathizes with them when they re hurting.I had a pretty good guess at who Elissa s one is throughout, but Perry kept planting small seeds of doubt at points. This story does deal with some mature topics such as infidelity, mating, marriage, hormones and a vague allusion ot rape Each of those is handled delicately in the fantasy setting which adds a layer of cushion when necessary.Disclosure plot meandered hither and yon with no clear direction or message There was far too much going on, with not enough details to make any of it believable I m not totally sure what the point was at times was the book about Elissa trying to find a husband Her attempt to grow up Connect with her family I m not sure I think the message really boiled down to don t let your hormones lust drive your relationship decisions A good message for sure, but I don t think this book was the best way to present that I was drowning in insta love, irrational decisions, and love triangles like octagons in this book, and it drove me crazy One positive is that the author discouraged premarital sex, and showed some of the consequences it led to This is very different from mainstream opinion, and I appreciated that the author was willing to go against the grain and present a different view Another positive was that even though this is marked as a new adult book, the author kept the romance s fairly clean overall Nothing explicit here.It was neat to see how the author included a wide variety of personalities in this book Again, too many characters led to underdevelopment of nearly all of them, though there were a few that really stood out Psyche and Holis were fun to read about, though they were supposed to be the bad characters If the author had chosen just one or two of the relationships in this book to flesh out and devote time to, and dropped most of the others, that would have made a huge difference One note I feel like Elissa and Cari switched personalities about a quarter way through the book, and it took me a bit to get settled with the characters again. The setting was supposed to be dystopian than fantasy, but we didn t get to learn a whole lot about the world the book was set in All we know is a flood caused it to be populated by only human butterfly hybrids, and some animals There was a hint of religious persecution, though it wasn t clear what religion was being persecuted, or if the persecution had recently ended The characters prayed twice, maybe three times in the entire book, and it wasn t clear how deeply felt their faith was, or who they were praying to It felt thrown in to me, and not authentic for the characters Overall, I m not sure whether the world building was good or bad there was so little of it, I can t really say either way.One last comment I was actually grossed out by some of the stuff in this book wing birth, pheromone stuff, etc I get that the author wanted to bring in some authenticity to the human butterfly crossover, but all the details were kinda disturbing at times The gist of my review is this great idea, ruined by poor development This book had so much potential it s disappointing to see the author didn t follow through with it I m hoping that following books will be better developed, but I can t say for sure.Rating 2 starsRecommended NoContent guide Language 0 10 none that I can recall Sexual content 6 10 lots of kissing, talk of mating, insta love lust, characters relationship seems at times lust than love, almost rape, some nudity Violence 3 10 injuries, some mildly graphic, hormone driven fights, etc Many thanks to the author for providing a copy to review For book reviews, or to request your own book to be reviewed by yours truly, visit gabriellenblog.wordpress flag 2 likesLike
